Anybody willing to be on deck to pre-read and/or beta Teen Wolf fic about Derek and Stiles and their terrible, fantastic, dovetailing issues? It's not quite done - I've got 3 scenes to fill out further, and some obsessive editing to do - but it ought to be there in the next day or so. No spoilers past aired canon, no specific deadline, and likely about to be Jossed to hell on Monday anyway. Also, it's already 20,000 words. I should probably mention that part, right?

So... Bueller?
stillane: (Default)
Am back from the Ancestral Home. Have no water due to pipes having burst within the boiler room from cold. Want a shower. Apartment smells like bar due to neighbor's refusal to stop smoking inside, despite landlord's requests. Braved slick roads again only to find local-est Chinese food place closed.

Life hard.

On the plus side, happy-you're-home cats are great, brownies are going to happen, and I intend to call in dead to work tomorrow. There will be laziness, and flist-reading, and fic. *happy sigh*

And on that note, meme:

Ask me one fandom-related question in the comments. This can be fandom specific, general, or about fandom/lj stuff/fic writing/etc. in general.

Just one question, please, but it can (and perhaps should) have sub-parts.

Question can be as wacky as you want. Ask me about tv shows, characters, fanfic in general, fandom issues/meta, anything about any of my stories specifically. Whatever you want.

How awesome was that?!

Okay, I lied. I have more. Please do not assume anything in here will be new or different, though, because I am possibly the last human on Earth to join this party, and I have no doubt all the cool stuff has already been discussed.

I do have one caveat, though, and it's not about the movie itself.

*deep breath*

Okay. I feel better. Rant concluded, and we now return you to your regularly scheduled dose of squee.

Seriously, how terrific was that movie?
stillane: (Default)
Okay first, note to self: Bailing out from what looks to be a truly spectacular horsey meltdown induced by rapidly approaching snowmobiles is a protocol best enacted when one does not have the combo of muddy, slick ground and a trick knee going for one. Just so you know. Ow.

Second: The WIP Meme! Which is to say, I've got kind of a lot of them, at the moment. Also, I'm bad at keeping it to just a sentence.

I'd rather be sitting on a beach somewhere with my laptop. I'd totally be willing to deal with sand in the keys, even. )

I think that's most of them. The ones that are vaguely coherent, anyway, and not just scraps here and there. I'm not counting the one with the goats, because it's actually done, with the exception of a little editing. Provided finals season stops thumping me into the ground, it will even see the light of day soon. \o/

And now I have to go write about osteoarthritis while wondering vaguely what the cartilage in my knee looks like these days. Life isn't fair. *sigh*

Two things

stillane: (Default)

1. Super sekrit message to [profile] feartheotter: it's here! Mwahahaha! Cows!!! I will send pictures, possibly of taunting my classmates with its awesomeness. Heh.

And

2. A meme I'm stealing from [personal profile] aesc, because after much of this day, there needs to be something goofy and fun around here:

The thing is, when people look for stories, they always make it sound like badfic. Now, often that's because it really is badfic, but sometimes it's good and they just suck at describing the story.

So, your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to summarize badly any one (or more!) of my stories and I'll try to guess which it is. You could even pretend you don't remember the pairing or fandom to make it harder to guess.

All fic is present and accounted for in my memories. Go forth and baffle!

Two things:
1. Anyone up for a short beta on something SG:A-oriented? I almost said, "a quick beta", but that gives the wrong impression, as I'm not on any deadline. It probably shouldn't take long, though, given that it's... well, short. (Unless I've really screwed up. This is always a possibility.) It contains 2,000ish words, spoilers for pretty much everything up to Be All My Sins Remember'd, and a great deal of team. Any takers?

and

stillane: (Default)

More than a year and thirty-odd pages later, I think this thing may finally be done. As a bonus, it might even be coherent this time. Any of you up for telling me whether that's just wishful thinking?

What, you want actual details? Oh, fine then. It's SG:A, John/Rodney, and going on 12,000 words. Some of you might even have seen it before, back when it was going by the name Inhibitions. (Which it still kind of is.)

So, any takers? Please?

Haven't been posting much because honestly, nothings been going on. This is because I am on vacation. I am one with the sloth. (The deadly sin kind, that is. Cute as the critter form is, I've heard they can be nasty little bastards and they have their own plant growth. I will adore them from slightly more of a distance, thank you.)

stillane: (Default)

Bit 1: To whoever nominated Linguistics for the McKay/Sheppard Awards... Thank you! *hug* As usual, I'm running a day late and many dollars short in saying so, but it made my week to find out about that one. So, thanks. *g*

Bit 2: I'm off to the Ancestral Home tomorrow afternoon, critters in tow. Should be an interesting drive. We'll see how far we get before the chaos sets in.

Bit 3: As a corollary to Bit 2, just in case I don't get back here between now and then, hope you all have a great Thanksgiving, those that will be having one. (Those that won't should still have a great day, just because.)

A quickie.

Epiphany of the day:

Rafiki = Yoda. Discuss. (This thought brought to you by the sister's boy, who is far wiser than his years and affected bearing would evidence.)

Notes:

1. Still sick. Grr. On the plus side, I now have two functioning nostrils, so improvement is on the horizon.

2. I am desperately attempting to catch up on my backlog of feedback, and then fic. The first is proving difficult because I have to re-read everything to remember what I wrote to begin with - yep, memory like a goldfish, it seems - and I keep stopping to change things. Do other people do that? I feel very OCD about old fic sometimes. Like when you sing in a choir, and there's a tone off somewhere in the mix, and it jangles in your ear until you can feel it slip into place. Like that.

Also, I have a bad case of inertia. I feel bad about not responding, which makes me hesitant to call attention to the fact that I didn't respond. Which leads to me putting off responding, and the whole cycle starts back up.

Neurotic. I know. But am I nuts? *waggles eyebrows, and wanders off to find a handsaw*

3. As to why the second is proving difficult... I have 1500 words of Methos. How the hell did that happen? I didn't plan for 1500 words of Methos. I don't even think these are the main words, just the bones that hold the head up and the legs down. I have to go find the ribs now.

When there is some meat on these bones, would any of you be up to reading over it? Just to check that I haven't violated any of the basic tenants of the universe, you know? Because I may be slightly caught up in the Methos Is Pretty, and missing entirely the Big Honking Facts of Immortal Life.

Hi all.

No, don't fall over. It is, in fact, daylight, and I am at the keyboard. No one is more surprised than I. Just dropping in for another session of random life bits.

5. Am still writing. Whee! And because I'm a slave to curiosity, I might have maybe done that "Tell Me What to Create" meme thing.
stillane: (Default)

One possible spoiler for the Canadian SGA bounty, but it is both sideways and small. Really. If you get it, you've probably seen it.

stillane: (Default)
Hiya. Am progressing toward sleepy, so forgive me if I ramble.

First off, am still alive and kicking. Have had a particularly pleasant day, for a variety of reasons. The first being the weather, which was turbulent in all the best ways. This makes me unduly gleeful, since I love storms and warm weather, and we resembled Florida in hurricane season for most of the day. (Well, except for the fact that our location would lead to flying cows a la Twister. Not many palm trees here.) Work was nice; didn't have to report for duty until noon, and had a successful c-section to boot. When they go bad, they're about the worst thing ever, but when they're good... you get seven healthy, tiny little puppies. You can't beat knowing you helped in that. No, siree.

And now for the list of things which I am delinquent about. The level of delinquency varies by case.

1. The McShep Awards. So, uh, apparently I've been nominated. A couple of times... Like, three. Dude. Whoever you are that happen to be responsible for that, I would totally hug you embarrassingly, provided I knew your names and locations. In lieu of that: thank you! *hug*

2. Tangentially...[info]20thcenturyvole wrote this very, very cool tag to The Return: Part I over here which I got to beta, and which happens to be nominated as well. Just so you know. (Which you all do, no doubt, because you're not internet hermits. *sigh* I need to get out less.)

3. Which brings us to the reason I haven't been squeeing about the magically-appearing Canadian SGA bounty. I haven't seen them yet. This is so sad that it is just painful. Hopefully, I'll get to rectify the situation this weekend, because I miss being communal almost as much as I miss those crazy space adventurers.

4. And this is the one that I should be kicked for... Way, way back in history [info]enname drew this for my birthday, and I've recently realized I fell down on the 'hey, look at the pretty' sharing end of things. *hoards shiny things* So go look at the pretty. (I showed my mom, as proof that I know alarmingly talented people. She agreed.)

5. I haven't actually answered comments in... a very long time. This is not because I have suddenly decided not to answer them. It's more that I like to store them up, a few at a time, until I'm in the right mindset to be a good commenter. (Also, because then I can read through a handful of very kind things at once, and get a fuzzy warm feeling going on. I'm not even going to pretend that I don't. On a crappy day, there is nothing quite so nice as having legible proof that not everyone thinks you suck.) But lately (as in, for the last few months), they've just... gotten away from me. I come home from work and feel too tired to do such sweet feedback justice, and so I think I'll answer it the next day... Add to that the fact that LJ has been not so much good with the notifications... The upshot of all this babbling is, if you've left a comment on something I've written in the last little while, I promise I will eventually get around to telling you how much I appreciate it. Really. In the meantime, thank you.

And [info]20thcenturyvole: that thing that we were talking about? Ought to be moseying your way in the next few hours. Sorry it's not hosted somewhere quick and easy. Let me know if this particular system doesn't work and I'll try something else. (Like digging up where I got it in the first place. Seriously, memory like a sieve.)

Maybe more to follow tomorrow, including the Saga of the Hospital, and why I might be one of the cool kids this New Years. For now: I wish you all puppies. Baaaaby puppies!

huh.

So... I have twenty-six pages of a rough something. I'm not entirely sure what that something is, though. Anyone up for giving it a look and offering their best guess?

The things which are assured: it's unpolished, there is John, and there is Rodney, and they are definitely engaged in being John/Rodney (although that salacious little symbol refers more to emotion than active bumping of bits)... actually, that's about it. The rest is kind of a mess, semi-intentionally.

Want to help me figure out what order all the pieces should be in? I keep staring at them all and playing mix and match. They're all connected, somehow, but there's more than one thread, and it's not really all that linear, and... gah. Help?
stillane: (Default)

Hi crew.

Been scarce the last week or so, and figured it was time to check in.

And just for fun: a meme. This one is gakked from [profile] sdraevn, in the hopes that I will be guilted into getting more done by its very presence.

If you happen to be working on some creative writing project, fanfiction or NaNoWriMo or what have you, post exactly one sentence (or more) from each of your current work(s) in progress. It should probably be your favourite or most intriguing sentence so far, but what you choose is entirely your discretion. Mention the title (and genre) if you like, but don't mention anything else -- this is merely to whet the general appetite for your forthcoming work(s).

And there you have the latest on me. How are you all?

stillane: (Default)
Hi all.

Because I need to get my writerly little head screwed back on correctly (so that I can finish the three fics that are still kicking my ass), I'm trying something new. (Well, new to me, anyway; all the cool kids already have done it. The whole system below is cobbled together from [profile] sdraevn and [profile] volefan's pioneering efforts.) Hence, drabbles! Or ficlets. Whatever may result. Probably drabbles.

Here be the rules: Suggest two prompts in any form - neat words, plot summaries, lyrics, titles, poetry; the world is your little oyster - and I'll do my best to give you something involving one of them.

The catch is this: Give me one prompt for a fandom that I definitely know, and one for one that I might not. Requesting something original is dangerous, but also an option.

The fandoms I'm reasonably confident I could navigate, and their associated pairings, are as follows:

SGA - Do you really need to ask? Okay. Aside from the usual, I'll try just about anybody with just about anybody, so long as John and Rodney are left to each other.

Supernatural
- Sorry, folks. Can't do the incest. Just my own personal roadblock. Anybody else you'd like to see any of the boys with, though, is fair game.

Mag 7
- Fair warning. I don't write them well. Never have, probably never will, but I'd try.

Fastlane - If you watched it, you probably know exactly who's with who in my mind. I'm predictable like that.

Pirates - I'm a dreaded Norrington/Sparrow person. Which, you know, kind of makes me delusional at this point. It's my own little world, yes, but at least the scenery's pretty.

Numb3rs - Colby/David. Still with the own little world.

Other than that, try me. Also, don't let the listing of pairings deter you; gen is always on the table, with whatever characters your heart sees fit. Off to go book hunting now, but I'll check back in a bit.
stillane: (Default)
Brace yourselves. I'm about to update about many a random thing, and promise no cohesiveness anywhere therein. Anybody interested in skipping to the good parts: I'm still alive and kicking. Dad's surgery went well, and he's healing nicely. Everything else is in the shrug stage. So, overall, thumb's up.

stillane: (Default)
Just wanted to say thank you to whatever kind souls happen to be behind some recent awards nominations. I feel a little like death warmed over, and these have made my week.

First up are the Stargate Awards. I knew ahead of time about one nomination - and though I won't blow the nominator's cover, thank you again - but three? Holy cow. Linguistics, The Ratio of Burning, and Apitherapy are all up for awards. While the category selection process has had me scratching my head in pleased puzzlement - is Apitherapy a tag or missing scene, by the site's definitions? should Ratio be angst or drama? - I couldn't be happier.

Next comes the Lawrence Awards, which I somehow completely missed the boat on up until now. I blame graduation insanity. I spotted a link and followed it over to see if my favorites had been listed yet, and was stunned to find a couple of my own on the books. Somatic is up for Best Overall and Best Sam, and Fidelity is in the running for Best Episode-Based. I'm still blinking dazedly.

Given the competition, I'm not in the least expecting to lead in any of these categories. I'm just rather thrilled that whoever you mysterious people are, you've thought enough of my stories to put them in such company. It's been just over a year since I started out on this fandom adventure, and I wouldn't trade it for anything. I'd forgotten how much I loved to write, and worse I'd forgotten how much I missed writing for its own sake. Everyone who comments, betas, and leads by example has my undying gratitude. I'm still learning the how and the what and the when, but thank you all for reminding me that the effort is worth it.
