Anybody want some?
Jul. 27th, 2006 03:39 pmHi all.
Because I need to get my writerly little head screwed back on correctly (so that I can finish the three fics that are still kicking my ass), I'm trying something new. (Well, new to me, anyway; all the cool kids already have done it. The whole system below is cobbled together from
sdraevn and
volefan's pioneering efforts.) Hence, drabbles! Or ficlets. Whatever may result. Probably drabbles.
Here be the rules: Suggest two prompts in any form - neat words, plot summaries, lyrics, titles, poetry; the world is your little oyster - and I'll do my best to give you something involving one of them.
The catch is this: Give me one prompt for a fandom that I definitely know, and one for one that I might not. Requesting something original is dangerous, but also an option.
The fandoms I'm reasonably confident I could navigate, and their associated pairings, are as follows:
SGA - Do you really need to ask? Okay. Aside from the usual, I'll try just about anybody with just about anybody, so long as John and Rodney are left to each other.
Supernatural - Sorry, folks. Can't do the incest. Just my own personal roadblock. Anybody else you'd like to see any of the boys with, though, is fair game.
Mag 7 - Fair warning. I don't write them well. Never have, probably never will, but I'd try.
Fastlane - If you watched it, you probably know exactly who's with who in my mind. I'm predictable like that.
Pirates - I'm a dreaded Norrington/Sparrow person. Which, you know, kind of makes me delusional at this point. It's my own little world, yes, but at least the scenery's pretty.
Numb3rs - Colby/David. Still with the own little world.
Other than that, try me. Also, don't let the listing of pairings deter you; gen is always on the table, with whatever characters your heart sees fit. Off to go book hunting now, but I'll check back in a bit.

You needn't use prompts verbatim, you needn't go dark with them.

Date: 2006-07-27 11:22 pm (UTC)Here's the prompt - hold your horses, an REM song! Actually, probably my favourite REM song ever. Perfect Circle. If you don't have it, you should be able to listen to it on the shonky Vox upload here - http://rivier.vox.com/library/audio/6a00c2251cf8758fdb00c2251fb7bd8e1d.html or, here's a YSI - http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=2DF9F05603781707
I won't post the lyrics up. They're classic early REM baby-Stipe warble. What I'd really like is something evoked by the feel of the song, rather than literal, if that floats you.
If not, there's always the Holy Grail to fall back on... ;-)
Oooh, hrrrrm...
Date: 2006-07-27 11:36 pm (UTC)prompt 2: shades of grey, SGA, John/Rodney
Sorry, boring I know, two SGA prompts. Is that allowed?
*smooches*
Re: Oooh, hrrrrm...
Date: 2006-07-29 08:45 pm (UTC)No. Absolutely not. Get back here right now and come up with something else. I demand it, on pain of... oh. Damn. Where did all those bunnies come from? They just... sit there, staring at me with their beady little eyes, chanting a low chorus of, "Write me. Write me."
I am afeared.
Slightly more seriously: Of course it's allowed, you ninny. *g* And Teyla/Lorne is outside my usual range enough to practically count all on its own.
Also, I'll see your *smooches* and raise you a *tacklehug*.

Let me walk on the wild side, Original. Prompts? red shawl
*screws your head back on* You look better with it ya know :)

Date: 2006-07-30 06:33 am (UTC)I'm trying for both prompts, when I can, but I'm not sure which of these will come first. The red shawl, though... I have these two pictures in my head for it, but then again they might be the same picture in two different places... hmm. Does it help to know that they're pretty pictures?

Date: 2006-07-30 07:04 am (UTC)Oh take your time, and really when it comes to order whatever happens first is fine. Let the muse dictate that sort of thing.
You see this is the other reason you need your head on. To be able to share the pretty pictures with us. *nod*

...Hey, the fandom's vigorous, but still small! I have to try. *g*

Date: 2006-07-30 06:38 am (UTC)Whee! I was holding my breath and hoping you'd go for the pretty FBI bait. I miss them. *g*
I'm trying for both prompts, if I can manage it. I can't promise to get to anything approaching the readable with the HnG, but I'll give it a shot. I like that rivals dynamic. And the ghost. How can you go wrong with a ghost?
no subject
Date: 2006-07-28 11:50 pm (UTC)SGA: anything based on these lyrics. I've been addicted to that song lately (I can upload it if you want). Doesn't have to be über sad per se.
Umm, for the second fandom, how about Firefly? Something River-centric or Mal/Inara, with the words 'chase' and 'ashes'.

Date: 2006-07-30 06:47 am (UTC)And 'Someone Save Temptation'" definitely sounds all John-like, though.
As for the second: You're going to make me go watch that movie again, aren't you? Nevermind that I cried like a baby for a week after the first time. *sigh* Oh, how I suffer. *g*

Date: 2006-07-30 12:15 pm (UTC)Sorry. *g* I rewatched it a few days ago and it's still stuck in my head. God, I'm still cursing FOX for the cancellation. *bitter*
