After the incredible crappiness that has been my week so far, this piece of news failed to surprise me. The only thing that did surprise me was that I immediately felt worse than I did already.
I didn't see this coming at all. I knew the ratings were better lately, and that the network was always hyping up how it takes its tech-savvy viewers into account, and then they pull this?
What I want to know is what they hope to accomplish here. Out of all the shows they've thrown at the wall over the last couple of years, they've had exactly two stick. Of those two, Battlestar is fazing out, which leaves them... what, Eureka? Which, don't get me wrong, I love, but... they're going to keep a network running on one show and some wrestling? Really? Sure hope they're not banking on their movies to keep them afloat.
(although, the traitorous part of me says that some of the recent episodes have been... short of previous seasons, so maybe a change in format is what the show needs?)
*sigh* My problem is that it may be a slow death, but it's still the end. There's some really good stuff coming up, word has it, and at the moment it sounds like there'll only be one movie in the works. Two hours' worth of material is never going to make up for a full season. I'm going to miss my dorky space vampire show so much. :(
Yeah. I have a feeling our current model of television production won't last out much more than the decade. It's crap like this that gives me hope that's a good thing.
Network television has been run by a bunch of 18-49-year-old-male-obsessed assholes forever. I'd love to see them get their heads handed to them, really.
Yeah, I've been expecting this announcement since the season began. Figured it would be before the second half (make sure people watch) and after the initial start (not to spoil that excitement). Do so hate it when I am right...
I am kind of glad now I've not finished season four - I can deny reality for some time.
*sigh* This wasn't even on my radar, honestly. I just figured everything was going okay, especially since ratings had been picking up. What's that old line? To assume makes an ass out of u and Scifi?
I say watch slowly and bask in denial. I plan to savor every minute 'til it's over and then cry like a big old baby, myself. :(
Ah, I am so good at coming to fandoms when they are already dead let alone closed that... it was more of a shock to be in an active one. Hence the finding I was unable to watch it episode by episode.. and had to stockpile :P
After a few hours to process, I think more than anything I'm bitter that they told us now (harshing all over my squee for the most anticipated ep yet), and that we're not getting the mid-season hiatus. If we'd gotten that, I could've had time to disengage before the finale aired. But I can't now. And every ep I watch I'll be counting down to the end, and it's going to hurt.
Yeah. I'm moving beyond numb and into righteously pissed, now. The fact that they went in with an agenda to ax, ratings and popularity be damned, really bothers me. Given what they pulled with the timing on SG1's cancellation, though, I guess I shouldn't be at all surprised.
First off: Hi! Sorry my comment-responding skills suck big time just now; I got kidnapped by life over the weekend, and wound up doing far more road tripping than expected.
Second: *clings* At least we've still got fandom? *hums the appropriate Gershwin tune*
And third: Thank you! I might possibly have cackled like a hyena when I read your comment. I can't believe you remembered, especially given the fact that I've forgotten it repeatedly lately. *hugs*
Also... Your icon prompts me to have to ask: Is there a Batdog? Is he full of issues, as all good Batfamily members should be? Does he have awesome bat-related doggie gear? That just might make my life complete. *g*

Date: 2008-08-21 02:50 am (UTC)You know, outside of television-land, this week hasn't been bad over here. Scifi, however, has managed to fix that imbalance. Bastards.

Date: 2008-08-21 07:11 am (UTC)And they wonder why less and less people are watching telly? I read somewhere that the people lost by the strike never came back.
This doesn't help.
