Okay. So.

I was going to have con notes and pictures up tonight, and maybe a report on all the gloriously crazy stuff that's been going on this week, but... Well, I woke up this morning unable to get my head past medial position without lots and lots of pain. I'm pretty pain-tolerant, most of the time, but this is just annoying. I made embarrassing whimpery sounds while trying to brush my hair, and hauled myself into work, where I spent about an hour very carefully not moving in front of a computer screen before my boss caught me and said, "Home. Now. With drugs."

Ibuprofen ain't touching it, a hot shower was no help, and I've got enough Bengay on my neck to numb a rhino. Although, on the plus side, that particular product always makes me think of due South, so... heh.

I'd really like to know what the hell I did, specifically for the purpose of never, ever doing it again. (Not, as my sister suggested, for planning out ways to inflict it on other people. She's a little evil, that one. I'm so proud.) I just went to bed great, and woke up ow.

In apology for not having anything actually cool to say, I will leave you with this picture:

Yes, that's the Hewlett. Yes, that's the Penguin o'Doom. Yes, there's a story. And yes, I swear I'll get around to telling it as soon as this whole typing shtick doesn't make me want to pant miserably. In the meantime, any and all advice on how to make this stop would be accepted gratefully.

Ow.

In all fairness, it is placed rather front and center, as it were. *g*

PENGUIN. Hee. And he cuddled up to it all of his very own accord, too. *adores*

Ooo, fuzzy blanket. It is far too hot here to snuggle under it, but the fuzzy-blanket smell cures all ills, I think.

I.. may have gone hunting leftover vicodin last night, with little success. Thankfully, I've got something like 20 degrees more motion back today, and am not staggering around lopsidedly like a lesser Munster. Yay for progress!

Also, yay for band writeups! I failed to say so earlier, but that's fantastic. Congratulations!

Speaking from the experience of the person who fights off neck pain induced migraines (and my bro did this last week.. putting hair gel) .. you need to tag team it with ibuprofen and panadol, as well as some hard core stuff on the outside. If you can find it there, ibuprofen gel is kinda a thing made in heaven - better for necks than stuff like deepheat/bengay etc. That and sleeping with your head supported at the neck for a long time and getting up in all those annoying side long poses so as to not strain any back or neck muscles. Mmm.

:P

If it fails to stop I would recommend seeing an osteopath/chiropractor as they are good at manipulating to get muscles that are torn or over stretched to relax somewhat. Should ease off a little after a few days.. and almost completely after a week. When it no longer hurts to breathe try a few careful stretches.

I'm so glad you have expertise on this subject, although not so much that it has to come from personal experience. *hug*

It looks like we don't have the ibuprofen gel stuff around here - stupid US drug laws *sigh* - but the rest of the advice I can follow. I kind of bumpered myself in with pillows last night, which seems to have helped a lot with keeping my head still. At least I'm not walking around like Igor anymore, with one shoulder hunched up and the other hanging down. *is hopeful*

Ah meh, it is just more annoying for me now than anything. I know there is an out to the pain it just takes a lot of sitting around and waiting for it to happen.

Darn, cause that ibuprofen stuff is the bomb. Still, using some sort of gel for strained muscles will help... although it is more likely to draw the pain for the first few days. The best thing though is to not over compensate the rest of your body into a bad posture.. cause that will hurt even more. Try to use your hips and spine to support and don't slouch as that will just hurt more... I am glad it is feeling a tad bit better if not quite out of igor land. *gentle pat*

Last time that happened to me, it took a combination of heat pack, alcohol and lying still for a whole day before my neck started to feel better (painkillers couldn't touch it, so I stopped taking them)... and that was just from poor posture while sitting at the PC
*sends sympathies*

... and that was just from poor posture while sitting at the PC

Typically, the only way I manage to get a crick in my neck is when I've been bent over an exam for hours on end; the combo of the position and the tension tend to do it rather well. This one threw me for such a loop because I didn't even have anything to blame it on. At its worst, though, I'm used to it letting up within a few hours. My dad's joking that I'm getting on in years at 23. *g*

Ouch! When that happened to me, I got some numbing anti-inflammatory cream from the chemist, and obsessively used heat packs as hot as I could stand. Good luck!

i think you might wanna try a physiotherapist, if anyone you know has the contact for a good one. my physio helped relieve a whole lot of problems i had through manual therapy, and then sent me home with a regime of simple exercises that stopped me ever having such difficulties again.

a good physio is worth their weight in gold.

until you get an appointment...*here's a hug*

*hugs back* Thanks for the advice. I'm a little better today, and our campus med center is closed for the weekend, but I'm definitely keeping the physiotherapist idea in mind. I've never been to one before, but I've been all kinds of out of whack since I broke my tailbone last summer. I'm thinking this neck thing might just be symptomatic of that overall problem. Maybe it's time to let a profession put me back together. *g*

I swear that you shouldn't leave the house.

But I second the above advice to go see a physio

*snorts* But I managed this one while safe at home. In bed, even. I'm just that talented.

I'm keeping the physio idea in mind. The med center here won't be open until Monday, but if I'm still goofy by then it might be time to summon the experts.
