Yuck. I have the flu. *sigh*

I'm pretty sure my whole school has the flu, really. Momentary pauses during lectures are filled with an awful lot of hacking and sniffling and whimpering these days, some of it from the lecturers. My favorite is one particular fellow who is... Okay, look. We know he's brilliant. He has to be. He's also kind of a space cadet, though. Most of us just sit in stunned wonder when he talks, and contemplate starting a drinking game for every time the words "Yeah, I don't know either" and "Huh. Wonder what's next" are uttered. Add illness and cold meds to that and you've got one seriously entertaining experience.

So yes, sick. I sound like I've developed a three-pack-a-day habit. I keep staring at the Torchwood finale on my desktop and wondering if I've currently got the fortitude for it. I'm thinking not so much, really. I need a movie in which stuff blows up entertainingly. Like, unapologetically so. Any suggestions?

Before I got the plague, I did the take-pictures-of-stuff meme, and then promptly failed to post said pictures on account of being diseased. Does it help if I post many unrequested pictures, too?

For [personal profile] thefourthvine, who wanted Wyatt:

For [personal profile] aurora_84, who requested...

My computer:

This is a pretty good encapsulation of my life, actually. About 1/2 of those desktop icons are for WIPs, there's caffeine near at hand, and my headphones are taped because my cat thought they were awesome to gnaw upon. Yeah.

My earring collection, (which is rather tragic, I know):

And my favorite place in the apartment, which wound up being a difficult decision:

I went with the bed, because it is soft and comfy and astonishingly nice to crawl into at the end of a rather long day. Also, I get the moonlight in through those windows, and I love the slanty-roofed attic feel of the room.

In my quest to get these, however, I wound up taking many other pictures. Just in case you ever wondered...

My apartment looks like this:

The Penguin-O-Doom lives on the back of my futon:

Cats are astonishingly difficult to photograph:

It is, in fact, possible to be an 80 lb. lapdog:

And my backyard is a wild kingdom:

Above are my ducks. I couldn't get a really good picture, since Wyatt was really, really interested in meeting the neighbors' puppy, but they're in there. Originally, I just had one duck, and he quacked mournfully at me in the mornings as he paddled his lonely rounds. Then he got a girlfriend, and now they hang out splashing each other gleefully.

I also have deer. They like to mosey around below my deck. They are singularly unimpressed by Wyatt. It's kind of hilarious.

Yes, those are huge honking tire tracks you see in the ground. My landlord has decided to do some work to improve the "curb appeal". Thus far, I am not impressed. *looks skeptical*

And now, I think I'll go stare balefully at the Torchwood icon some more. Or maybe I'll just sleep. Sleep is good, right?

Hee. Hilariously enough, I read that as 'bandom deer', and could only think of the video to Sugar We're Goin' Down Swingin'... Yeah. Maybe it's time to lay off the (completely legal, I swear) drugs. *g*

I'm kind of tragically in love with my own living arrangements, I have to say. I did everything humanly possible wrong - drove 5 hours, gave myself a day and a half to find something, didn't make any appointments with anybody beforehand, and then totally failed to stick to my guns about the amenities I wanted - and I'm still a little amazed it worked out. I fell head over heels for the apartment all by itself, and it was a few months before the bonus wild critters started to make an appearance. I'm just waiting for summer, when the bunnies and the lightning bugs show up again. *g*

Sometimes, it is better to be lucky than skilled, I guess. This is possibly my motto in life. *is thoughtful*

I lovelovelove your place.

Thanks. I'm, um, kind of embarrassingly attached to it, myself. It was the weirdest kind of luck that I even found out about it to begin with, but as soon as I walked in my objectivity was toast. I was bright enough to bring my mom along on the quest, though, so at least she could be hard-nosed and intelligent while I was busy going, "Eee! Ceilings! See, see how bright it is! Ooo, look at that!" *g*

And your bed does indeed look comfy.

It is my very first real bed. Having slept in twin beds all my life up to this point, I can honestly say I am not at all sorry that I got stubborn about the upgrade. The ability to sprawl is so vastly underrated. *happy sigh*

Funny fact about the bed: I actually bought it from my elementary school principle, who has gone into the furniture resale business on the side. It was kind of bizarre to be wandering around an old barn picking out stuff for my first apartment with the same guy who helped me find my bus on the first day of school. Life is weird, but good. *g*

Oh no, the flu! Hopefully you feel better soon.

You have a gorgeous apartment, those wood floors and slanty ceiling! Eeep!

Thank you! I'm actually feeling quite a bit better today than I did yesterday, so here's to progress. I've got one more day before the rat race starts back up, at least, and I intend to make the most of it with sleep and medication.

I have absolutely no objectivity where the apartment is concerned, I think. I know other people who are really thrilled to be in places with more amenities and newer construction - nope, I don't have a dishwasher, and I really wish there were a washer and dryer - but I'm an old-fashioned girl at heart. I can't really understand falling for a place without some character to it. *g*

What a lovely apartment you have! Sunny and cozy at the same time plus pets!

I think you're right about cats being difficult to photograph, though I like your end result here. I once successfully photographed the cat I grew up with--from below, as she was leaning over a balcony--and was so pleased with the picture that I still have it framed and sitting in my room.

I have a theory that pets make the living experience much better on all counts. Also, it saves on the heating bills to have breathing hot water bottles on hand. *g*

Cats, though... The little monsters never stay still long enough once you've locked on them with a camera. They can have been asleep in the same position for the last five hours, but you look at them with intent and they're halfway across the house. You have to go ninja stealth photographer and catch them unawares. (I did not, of course, wander about maniacally whispering, "Shh! I'm hunting kitties!" in the course of this photo shoot. Nope. Not at all.)

Hardwood floors! Ducks and deer and an 80-lb lapdog! Penguin 'o Dooooom. I am rather jealous of your lively, lovely living arrangements, but am less restive when I consider what a lovely person is living in them :)

*hugs you*

My poor hardwood floors are like a mud mosaic these days. I will be very glad when we get beyond what seems to be the perpetual mushy season and I can stop having a close relationship with my mop. *sigh*

You are certainly welcome to come share my futon with the Penguin 'o Doom, should you ever find yourself on this coast. You might have to fend off the lapdog, though; he is rather persistent in his affections. *g*

How are things in the land of warmth and sunshine, anyway?

I taunt you with my sunny homestead. Mwahaha. *waits for inevitable snowfall*

I might actually be human some time this weekend, btw, and able to say hi. Provided I've not curled up to die of this damned plague, that is. *sigh*
