This one of my favorite stories for the simple reason that( as the author said) John had given up. Why? Did he think his team had gone on vacation and maybe pick him up on the way back? Did he think that he wasn't valuable enough to the expedition for Elizabeth to find him? As an Officer and a pilot he has probably been deployed much longer. Why did he give up? Why did he give up on his team?
