All I am doing is piggybacking on other people's comments, but this is the essence of the whole thing. Throughout the eps John does have faith in Rodney, regardless of what we or TPTB think they are to each other. And yeah, there's Trinity, but this is something different. John loses his faith, not just in Rodney, but in his team and Elizabeth and everybody. It's less faith in their abilities than faith in their thinking that he's worth it. And as much as I love the ep I think insane amounts of fic needs to be written about everyone's reactions, because they all have to come to terms with the difference between their experience and perceptions and John's.
