I love this story! It's so emotionally affecting but in a very subtle, downplayed way. I was starting to feel the tears by the second paragraph. The form (parallel paragraphs? I don't know what it's called but I recognize that each paragraph follow the same form) is very nice too. It seems to make you follow the story smoothly throughout.
I also really liked the sympathetic reactions you showed that Dex (who I'm really starting to like! such a laconic guy) and Zelenka have to Rodney and his situation, even though Rodney's too upset to see it.
